In 2005, the planets did not align in the fall skies over Georgia... The number of skaters registered - and therefore the available funds in the bank - for the 24th A2A event was significantly down from the previous year. With a go/no-go point fast approaching to make the required advance financial and logistical committments for items like the insurance and police coverage required to host an official event, the organizers made the disheartening decision that the 2005 event could not be held. And yet, some skaters just have to skate from Athens to Atlanta in the fall of the year, official event or not!

Below is a summary of those skaters/skates that we know about which occurred on or about the date of the cancelled 2005 event. The appearance of this information here is neither an official endorsement nor condemnation of the actions of these skaters. The route that all A2A skaters take from Athens to Atlanta over the public roads is one that any skater can travel on any day of any year - this is not under our control. However, we present this information here to document the accomplishment of these individuals, and especially those who skated this classic point-to-point route for the first time (*) - even without the benefits of a supported official event. When you take away all of the pomp and circumstance of our official events you get down to the spirit that drives all roadskaters, and the heart of what got us started in the first place so many years ago. Certainly those who appear below, first-timers and veterans alike, have that spirit.
