Driving Directions - Atlanta to Checkpoints

Atlanta to Start (Athens):
Skate starts at 7:30 am sharp

• Take I-85 North to Athens Exit/SR 316 (exit 106). Go approx. 40 miles to Athens.
• Stay on SR 316 to end (it will become “Epps Bridge Road”).
• After 2.5 miles Epps Bridge Road veers right and becomes Hwy 78 (headed into Athens). (Hwy 78 is also called Broad Street.) Go approx 2.5 miles.
• Turn Left (North) on Thomas St. Go 2 blocks.
• Classic Center will be on the Right at Thomas & Washington.
• A city parking deck is just past Washington St. on the Left.

Atlanta to CheckPoint 1:
Front skaters arrive CP1 about 8:10 am

• Take I-85 North to Athens Exit/SR 316 (exit 106). Go approx. 30 miles to Statham.
• Turn Left on Bethlehem Rd. Go 7/10 mile; turn right at end.
• Go 1/10 mile and turn left across RR tracks.
• Go 1/10 mile and turn Left Broad St./SR 211 North.
• Go 1/10 mile and turn Right, staying on SR 211 North.
• Go 2.5 miles to CP1 on your Right (Pure Gas Station/Store).

Atlanta to WaterStop 1:
Front skaters arrive at WS1 about 8:30 am

• Take I-85 North to Athens Exit/SR 316 (exit 106).
• Go approx. 21 miles to Winder (SR 81).
• Turn Left on SR 81. Go approx 4 miles, cross SR 8 in Winder; SR81 becomes SR 11.
• Stay on SR 11. Go approx 4 miles to WS1 at the intersection of SR 211. (Chevron station.)

Atlanta to CheckPoint 2:
Front skaters arrive CP2 about 8:45 am

• Take I-85 North to Athens Exit/SR 316 (exit 106). Go approx. 10 miles.
• Turn Left on SR8 East/US 29 North (toward Dacula, Auburn, Carl). Go approx 7.5 miles.
• Turn Left on Carl-Cedar Hill Rd. (Carl-Midway Church on opposite side).
• CP 2 is approx. 3 miles ahead at SR 211.
• CAUTION: skaters will be turning on SR 211 in front of you.

Atlanta to CheckPoint 3 & 38-Mile Finish (Dacula Elementary):
Front skaters arrive CP3 about 9:15 am

• Take I-85 North to Athens Exit/SR 316 (exit 106). Go approx. 10 miles.
• Turn Left on S.R. 8/US 29 at the traffic light. Go 1.8 miles.
• Park on the Left in the small business lots. CP 3 and the 38 Mile Finish line is across the railroad tracks, along the sides of old main street (2nd Ave.) of downtown Dacula.

Atlanta to 52-mile Start:
Skate starts at 10:00 am SHARP

• Take I-85 North to Athens Exit/SR 316 (exit 106). Go approx. 7.7 miles.
• Turn Left on Hi Hope Rd at the traffic light. Go 0.3 miles to 723 Hi Hope Rd (on right), Gwinnett County Public Schools office.

Atlanta to CheckPoint 4:
Front skaters arrive CP4 about 10:05 am

• Take I-85 North to SR 120 (exit 107).
• Turn Right on SR 120 East. Turn Right on Atkinson Rd (2nd light).
• (CAUTION: skaters will be turning left off of 120 onto Atkinson, and proceeding in same direction as you)
• Turn into first right (before lane dividers) into Kids “R” Kids / Cooks Pest Control parking lot. CP4 is on Right after the turn onto Herrington Rd.

Atlanta to WaterStop 3:
Front skaters arrive at WS3 about 10:30 am

• Take I-85 North to Jimmy Carter Blvd.
• Turn Right on Jimmy Carter Blvd. Go approx 1.3 miles.
• Turn slight left onto Rockbridge Rd. Go 1.99 miles.
• Turn slight right onto John Carroll Rd.
• (CAUTION: skaters will be turning Left off of Dickens Rd onto John Carroll Rd, and proceeding in same direction as you.)
• WS3 is on Right just before US 29.

Atlanta to CheckPoint 5:
Front skaters arrive CP5 about 10:45 am

• From I-285 South on East side:
• Take US 78 East toward Stone Mountain. Go 12.5 miles. Exit at Hugh Howell Rd.
• Turn Left at Lilburn Stone Mountain Road. (first road?)
• At tee, turn Left on Silver Hill Rd.
• (CAUTION: skaters will be traveling with you until CP 5.)
• CP5 is approx. 0.3 miles ahead on Left at Silver Hill 7th Day Adventist Church (1350 Silver Hill Rd).

Atlanta to CheckPoint 6:
Front skaters arrive CP6 about 11:15 am

• From I-285 South on East side:
• Exit E. Ponce De Leon; Turn Right. Go approx. 1.5 miles.
• Turn Left at traffic light on N. Clarendon Ave.
• (CAUTION: skaters will be in front of you).
• CP6 is ahead on Right in front of gray Steel building.

Full Distance Finish (Piedmont Park)
Front skaters finish soon after 11:40 am
Park at Grady High off 10th St. Walk up 10th St. to Charles Allen Drive and cross into Piedmont Park. Finish Line is straight ahead 500 yds.
